A working smithery I stumbled into in Sweden
KNIVES
The steel for this knife came from the sled runners from an old horse-drawn winter sled. The steel is kept cold by the ice and snow while it is constantly being hammered against cobblestones (for decades)and eventually producing an excellent knife steel, that is nowadays, extremely rare.
The knife is resting on home grown, home spun and hand woven linen from late 1800

Meteor Knife
This meteorite knife is a little beaten up, needs to be cleaned up and polished but...
The butt end of it is from a piece of lapis lazuli we bought from an Afghan. It came from the Sari-i-sang mine. Next to the lapis is a piece of petrified redwood. This we found around kamloops area. There is a ring structure to it that is not visible in this picture. The whiteish handle is bear bone given to me by a local hunter The meteorite blade has a few pock marks (gas bubbles} and the classical Widmanstatten pattern. 
Iron is a crystalline metal. Usually we can only see those crystal structures with an electron microscope but because the iron cooled so slowly and in a gravityless environment (100 degree C for every million years) the crystals become larger and visible (over 10 million years).
Under the knife is another piece of meteorite that is of much better quality that will be also turned into a knife.... |

SPALTING FERMATATION
I am experimenting with fungal growth in wood. Burying wood and allowing the fungus to grow in it. Different fungus produce different colours and I am hoping by collecting the different coloured areas I will then be able to seed wood to produce different patterns.
